Greenwich Jaycees Annual Picnic at Greenwich Point

The 2nd Saturday of August the Greenwich Jaycees held their annual picnic at Greenwich Point. It was bring your own beverage and I think the Sangria Tammy brought stole the show! Burgers and hot dogs were served and there was an assortment of sides and desserts. Attendees played volleyball, toured the park, and chatted until the beach finally kicked us out at closing time! Before the day was through we had about 30 people come. See the photo gallery for more pictures...

August Happy Hour at 84 Park

The Greenwich Jaycees celebrated their August Happy Hour at 84 Park in Stamford. We had a nice turnout and we're even able to get good deals on drinks for the first two hours. If you haven't been to 84 Park yet, it is a new hot spot in downtown Stamford where Thirsty Turtle used to be. We had a couple new perspectives come and several current members. Our next Happy Hour will be the 2nd Friday (in September) due to the Labor Day weekend holiday. The location will be determined soon and posted on our web site. Check out the photo gallery to see more pictures from this event!

Summer Membership Open House

The Greenwich Jaycees held another successful Membership Open House Wednesday, June 24th at The Ginger Man in Greenwich. About 20 new faces interested in joining the chapter were in attendance. Besides finding us online many heard an advertisement for the open house on 95.9 Fox, 96.7 The Coast, or News/Talk 1400 WSTC/1350 WNLK. The board members in attendance as well as current members greeted the prospective members with information about the community service, networking, social, and leadership development opportunites Greenwich Jaycees provide. The prospectives were given a pamphlet with further information along with a DVD photo slideshow. We hope attendees will consider joining our great organization!

Rebuilding Together

Saturday, April 25th, the Greenwich Jaycees participated in the national Rebuilding Together program within the Fairfield County chapter. The Jaycees had over twenty volunteers help out in the morning and/or afternoon in this all-day affair. The Greenwich Hyatt also brought their share of volunteers and provided so much needed expertise in carpentry!

Membership Open House

This past Wednesday, March 25th, marked the day of the Greenwich Jaycees Membership Open House. The turn out at the event was fantastic! We had so many people that one had trouble wading through the room! It was a great mix of prospective and current members. While it was great to sign up a bunch of new members on the spot we hope others will consider joining as well. A slideshow was shown in the background of photos from events and each present board member gave a brief introduction to the crowd. We were honored to have the Connecticut Jaycees Membership VP (last year's President) and current President (Cathy and Bonnie, respectively) make the trip down from Cheshire and intruduce themselves to the attendees. Thank you to Kona Grill for letting us host the event. Thanks also goes to Gopher Ice Cream for posting a flier on the event and to the Fairfield County Happy Hour Club for mentioning our event in their weekly e-mail.

Ask to be added to our newsletter and e-vite distribution list to hear about upcoming events. You can also find us on Facebook, Meetup, and our web site (http://www.greenwichjaycees.org/).

Jaycees On Ice - Ice Skating with kids from Social Services

On the last day of February, the Greenwich Jaycees put on their skates and treated some kids from social services to ice time at the Dorothy Hamill Ice Skating Rink in Greenwich. From first timers to frequent skaters, it was a great time. Some family members even came to cheer on their children from the bleachers! Hot cocoa and food were provided to the kids during their breaks so they could boost their energy and head right back to the ice! Thank you to all of our volunteers, including Anesha, Maritza, Jonathan, Lori, Patty, Albert, Brooke, Sue, Dara, Matt, and Roger. Check out pictures from the event at our photo gallery.

February Monthly Membership Meeting

Last night, the Greenwich Jaycees held its monthly Membership Meeting for February. The meeting was held at the Trump Parc Sales Center in downtown Stamford. The guest speaker was Hope Stanger. Hope is the owner of The Holistic Empire specializing in coaching people to move away from an acid-base diet through the use of raw foods. Hope explained the harmful effects of acid-based foods versus the benefits of eating holistic foods. She also demonstrated making a shake with holistic ingredients and then treated everyone to the delicious result!

Followed by the guest speaker the formal meeting was held where highlights include the following:
1. Supper Club every month (starting this Sunday, Feb. 22nd at Bennett's Steak & Fish in Stamford)
2. Announcement of upcoming community events (stayed tuned for the E-vite for each or check out the calendar on our web site). Next event is Ice Skating with kids from Social Services at Dorothy Hamill Ice Skating Rink in Greenwich on Saturday, Feb. 28.
3. Announcement of Membership Open House next month at Kona Grill in Stamford (Wednesday, March 25th)
4. Greenwich Jaycees is now available on Facebook, LinkedIn, and Google Groups

February Social Happy Hour Event

Friday, February 6th, was our second happy hour of the year. The social gathering was held at The Ginger Man in SoNo. We had a nice spot reserved for us in the back with two tables. Appetizers included yummy pizza and fried calamari! The Double Chocolate Stout on draft was also a big hit! Attendees included board members Albert, Maria, Jay, and Roger, members Ed and Zack, and prospective/former members Megan, Christian, Jen, and Brian. A few of us moseyed over to The Loft afterwards. A good time was had by all and we hope to see everyone at our next happy hour!
